Madagascar-born Lala Simpson is a Wellington NZ-based community song leader, song writer, workshop leader and singer who delights young and old alike with her passionate, playful and joyful approach to singing and her focus on community singing as influenced by her upbringing and involvement in community singing in her homeland, Madagascar.
She has an innate rhythm, a natural singing voice, and a deep passion for empowering individuals and communities through singing. Having grown up immersed in music from her homeland, France, Africa, and the Indian Ocean, Lala is a strong believer in the power of singing to help us navigate our world, bring joy, and connect with one another. She is passionate about building a community based around singing.
As well as collaborating with other artists and inspired by 2 of her favourite singers Edith Piaf and Jacques Brel, she currently performs captivating, romantic and dramatic French chansons including the songs of Yves Montand and Charles Aznavour with her 3-piece band.
She brings with her a wicked sense of humor, an authentic taste of Madagascar, a deep love for its culture and traditions, patience, compassion for the learner, and a canvas for everyone to paint their voice on and create something beautiful in a collaborative way.
