"I’m very grateful for the opportunity to sing in Lala Simpson’s Kotaba Voices. It is a strong creative and spiritual anchor for me through through this difficult period of global pandemic, fights for racial justice, and economic uncertainty.  And to be very clear, for me, Lala is the lynchpin. I wouldn’t be involved without her leadership. She brings her training, her talent, her upbringing and culture, and her knowledge and love for world and Malagasy music to our experience."  Kristene Cristobal

"The women in Kotaba are really supportive of each other and it's a joy to sing together - even if it means occasionally stepping quite a long way out of my comfort zone. Being in the concert was a heart-warming experience that engendered a real sense of community." Liz Willmott

"I felt very lucky to be a part of the Wellington community choir and being able to perform such a diverse repertoire of music together in Wellington and New Zealand. I have lived in a few countries and experienced difficulties with integration of different races and cultures, however arts is often a catalyst for understanding our differences. I have enjoyed singing in Te reo Maori, Malagasy, English and many other languages. I am relatively a new member of the choir and by practicing towards the concert made me feel closer to the other members." Hanako Chiba

"I have been in the Choir for 7  years and it truly is a part of my life that brings me so much joy. I love and cherish the Choir aims to be accessible, democratic, diverse and accepting of a wide range of people with a focus on enjoyment and singing a broad range of songs from all around the world - I cherish that aspect.
The concert was a definite highlight for me who has been in many concerts to date. : Lala's philosophy of making sure we all are relaxed  led to enjoying what we do, giving our best effort, and indeed she has beautiful high standards that made that joint approach a real success. I particularly loved learning the range of multicultural songs. A real joy!"  Sophie Critchton
